HEARTFULNESS MEDITATION – A SCIENTIFIC APPROACH TO SPIRITUALITY (Part 2)

HEARTFULNESS  MEDITATION – A SCIENTIFIC APPROACH TO SPIRITUALITY

( Continued from the previous issue )

Heartfulness is a simple, practical way to learn to relax, meditate and discover the unlimited resources of the heart. With practice, one experiences the calmness from within, leading to the creation of better concentration, inner balance and true wellness of being.

Energy and Meditation

We use the word “Kshobh” in Sanskrit as the term for the Big Bang. This Kshob/Big Bang was all about energy outburst that created the universe with all the particles in space. The material particles can be transformed into energy – is a scientific law and is accepted by modern science too.

Energy manifests itself in light (as sunlight), heat (as warmth from the sun/fire), power ( from water, electricity and magnetism). In the spiritual sense we talk of this energy in the form of vibrations and meditation as resonance with these vibrations.

When we talk of “Transmission” we mean the transmission of this spiritual energy from the ‘Source’ through the capable Master to the individual during meditation.

What is Transmission

Why do we seek blessings from spiritually elevated persons? Because we have experienced that their wishes or blessings have the ‘power’ or ‘energy’ behind it for the blessing to be actualized.

We see this in our daily life when we seek blessings from our elders who are  more experienced in life and have all the good feelings and the best of wishes for the growth and development of the person receiving the blessing.

The blessings carry a sort of positive energy that gets transmitted to the persons who receive the blessing. This helps in a positive force being created enabling the person to achieve what s/he sets out to do. This is the very elementary basis of our system of Transmission.

Transmission has been defined as the utilisation of divine energy for the transformation of man. Here we are not speaking of physical transformation, as our bodies are limited by our genetic makeup. For example, we might be able to gain or lose a few pounds, but we cannot change our height substantially. On the mental level, there are fewer limitations. We can all learn – some very easily and some with greater difficulty. But it is only on the spiritual level that there is infinite scope for growth. The Transmission spiritually nourishes such unlimited growth.

If the energy that is transmitted can bring about infinite growth, it must also be infinite. In the physical world, there is no such thing as infinite energy. The sun can blaze for billions of years, but eventually, even it will burn itself out.

Under Einstein’s famous equation: E=mc², Energy is always limited by the velocity of light and the finiteness of mass. Even light cannot travel instantly. If a distance can be traversed in zero time, the velocity is infinite. Hypothetically, what would happen to Einstein’s equation if we were to substitute the speed of light with such infinite velocity? Inserting infinity into the equation means that the energy that comes to us would also be infinite and its source would also have to be infinite. This is the transmission of divine energy.

Great Masters  have never been bound by physical laws. An adept meditator may be seated in one country, while the aspirant is seated in some distant place across oceans and mountains. Yet, the moment the adept triggers the transmission, the aspirant receives it wherever he or she may be. This is the common experience of so many meditators.

There is a study on quantum entanglement  that describes how the change in state of one sub-atomic particle can affect the state of another sub-atomic particle instantly no matter how far they are transcending time and space.

Trying to grasp transmission intellectually is like trying to understand the taste of strawberry ice cream intellectually. Is it possible to convey its taste in words to someone who has never tried it? You can explain all about sucrose, dairy proteins and the temperature at which milk freezes, but it would all be useless. In the end, you would probably say, “Just try it!”

The best way to understand transmission remains to experience it practically.

Transmission makes meditation truly dynamic

The Guru of the Heartfulness approach to meditation has this capacity of transmission. What he transmits is his own spiritual energy which he has got access to by virtue of his own yogic accomplishment under his own Master. It has opened up in him the possibility of transmission which was rediscovered by his Master after many, many centuries of lost wisdom. It has been rediscovered that one human being can transmit to another this energy which is not limited in any way just because it comes from a human but is really is is unlimited because it is connected with the Ultimate source of all energy. Therefore, this transmission has no boundaries, it has no limits, there is no end to the amount of transmission that can take place or, the quantum of transmission that can take place. It is, therefore, possible to transmit to one person or to a hundred, or to millions, there is no limit. Also, he can transmit here or he can transmit to a person wherever he is.

By this transmission, the Master is capable of putting   into a   practicant’s heart his own energy. If somebody gives me a million dollars, I am a millionaire overnight.  He makes us spiritual millionaires, as it were, by putting into us his own wealth of spiritual attainment.

Spirituality is the science of wonder, science is the science of curiosity and wonder leads us forwards – towards the future.

a

You can use scientific experimentation to test the effects of transmission. First, meditate without transmission, using the prescribed Heartfulness technique. Then, after a few minutes, meditate using the same technique, with transmission, with the assistance of an adept who meditates along with you. This expert can either be physically present with you or at a remote location. You can do this as many times as you like, as it will be replicable. This test will allow you to compare the difference between meditation without transmission and meditation then with transmission. So, experiment and experience it for yourself.

Transformation of Man

Scientists agree that the particles of the body are being continuously made and unmade. It, therefore, follows that our new particles are being continuously made. When we foment the new particles with the warmth of love, which is a very subtle vibration, the particles begin taking the effect thereof and get transformed.

In each of our cells is the divine energy, that which sublimates the entire being. It is the divine presence within, which nourishes the soul and transforms matter. The living Master is himself nourished by that which he receives from the Source.

And then what happens? Beliefs change, minds evolve and aspire to an ever more perfect union with this divine Source which is inexhaustible and unique.  A fervent heart is eager to progress and allows it to put things into perspective and not neglect that which is essential – namely the divine energy that dwells in it and asks only to manifest itself which is made possible by the Masters.

A time may come when our entire being thus gets transformed . That is in the real sense the transformation of man.

Nourishment through Heartfulness Meditation

How does Heartfulness-Meditation nourish the mind, body, and soul?

The nutritional aspects of our existence vary for our physical body, for our mind and for our soul.  Our physical body receives nourishment through vitamins and minerals. We enrich our minds and educate ourselves through different educational systems, through school, college, books and the Internet.

What is the source of food for the soul?  It is the Divine Energy, Divine Essence, which is transmitted from the heart of the giver into another person’s heart. This Divine energy comes from the Eternal Source (Cosmic Energy).

And this is where Heartfulness Meditation comes into play its role.

The Science behind Heartfulness- Meditation

Science of Spirituality

0913_science_sa

There is no conflict between Science and Spirituality – both search for the truth – while one looks at the external, physical world and needs proofs, the other looks within, at the consciousness within and provides experiential truth.

If spirituality is scientific, is it not necessary for it to be proved beyond doubt to be believed and accepted?

The scientific nature of spirituality tells us – form a hypothesis, set up a personal experiment in meditation practice and see what the results are. This way, we realize the reality of anything ourselves.

Citing a Harvard study, Spiritual Master Kamlesh.D.Patel says that an electroencephalogram test conducted on some Buddhist monks, who have meditated for more than 20,000 hours, had entered the ‘delta’ stage (fourth level) of consciousness. Meditation, done the Heartfulness way, aims at attaining this stage much earlier.

Mr.Kamlesh Patel advocates – “Let belief be based on experience.” He also likens the present level of consciousness among humans to a thin film of water, indicating the presence of an ocean of super-consciousness above and another ocean of sub-consciousness beneath it.

Heart as the Laboratory

Heartfulness Meditation combines a scientific approach to spirituality.  There is a great underlying philosophy in meditation on the heart. The heart is the pumping station for our blood. A purified heart sends out purified blood to all parts of our body, including the smallest cells, thus purifying our entire being. We take the heart as the center for meditation as it is the center of life and by this practice, purify it and set our individual mind on the right path. The heart is the field of action of our mind and thus must always be set right to guide our mind.

Whatever you experience through a meditation process, first you prove it in your heart. Your heart thus becomes your laboratory.

Why do we meditate on the heart when the brain alone thinks of everything?

The heart is the field of work for the mind and all the points which are there in the body and the brain, almost all of them, are found in the heart and meditating on it, facilitates in purifying all those points.

Like scientists, we experiment with this meditation in our own hearts and see how we feel. These results of meditation are reproducible every time.  In scientific experiments, however, the results are reproducible under one and the same set of circumstances. The moment you change the circumstances the results will be different.

heart-full-living-map-cropped

In science, for example, water boils at 100° temperature, but is this a universal truth? No. You can boil water in the mountains at 5000 feet or 10,000 feet, at a lower temperature. Even in Science there are no fixed rules. What about the melting point of water? It is the same principle: at zero degrees at sea level water will freeze but if you put a little salt in it, it will not freeze at zero degrees. That is why we use salt when there is snow on the roads. So, this simple experiment of observing at what temperature water will boil or will freeze depends on external circumstances and also on what is present in the water – salt or no salt.

It may however be noted that in spiritual experiments, you are the judge, you are the experimenter and you can change the circumstances and yet arrive at the same conclusion: ‘Yes, meditation does make me tranquil, it does make me peaceful, it does bring calmness within me.’

When one commences Heartfulness Meditation, there is no need for faith or belief on the very first day. We are like scientists; we experiment with this method of  meditation in our own hearts and see how we feel. The experiment provides the experience.

Everything You Need To Know About Particulate Matter

Delhi has started with the second edition of its previously much-talked about Odd Even rule. The Odd-Even rule was implemented after the air in the national capital became too dangerous to breath in. All the media houses shouted few words all the time : “high PM levels; PM 10 and PM 2.5 levels cross the safe limit; air in Delhi too harmful”.

So how exactly does the PM levels harm our body? Infact, lets start with what exactly is PM?

Particulate matter (or PM) is the term used for a mixture of solid particles and liquid droplets found in the air. Some particles, such as dust, dirt, soot, or smoke, are large or dark enough to be seen with the naked eye.

What is PM 10 and PM 2.5?

PM 10 is particulate matter 10 micrometers or less in diameter, PM  2.5 is particulate matter 2.5 micrometers or less in diameter. PM2.5 is generally described as fine particles. By way of comparison, a human hair is about 100 micrometers, so roughly 40 fine particles could be placed on its width

Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) is an air pollutant that is a concern for people’s health when levels in air are high. PM2.5 are tiny particles in the air that reduce visibility and cause the air to appear hazy when levels are elevated. Outdoor PM2.5 levels are most likely to be elevated on days with little or no wind or air mixing. The New York State Departments of Health (DOH) and Environmental Conservation (DEC) alert the public by issuing a PM2.5 Health Advisory when PM2.5 concentrations in outdoor air are expected to be unhealthy for sensitive groups.

So where does the fine particulate matter come from?

There are outdoor and indoor sources of fine particles. Outside, fine particles primarily come from car, truck, bus and off-road vehicle (e.g., construction equipment, snowmobile, locomotive) exhausts, other operations that involve the burning of fuels such as wood, heating oil or coal and natural sources such as forest and grass fires. Fine particles also form from the reaction of gases or droplets in the atmosphere from sources such as power plants. These chemical reactions can occur miles from the original source of the emissions. PM2.5 is also produced by common indoor activities. Some indoor sources of fine particles are tobacco smoke, cooking (e.g., frying, sautéing, and broiling), burning candles or oil lamps, and operating fireplaces and fuel-burning space heaters (e.g., kerosene heaters).

What are the health effects?

  • premature death in people with heart or lung disease,
  • nonfatal heart attacks,
  • irregular heartbeat,
  • aggravated asthma,
  • decreased lung function, and
  • increased respiratory symptoms, such as irritation of the airways, coughing or difficulty breathing.

Apart from health effects, presence of PM also affects the visibility around. It produces haze, which creates problems for people behind the wheels.

Dangers of Bromine in Food

Bromine is a chemical compound frequently used in flame retardants, baking ingredients, cell phones, plastic, dye, soda, and prescription drugs. Bromine is found naturally in the earth’s crust and in seawater in various chemical forms. Bromine can also be found as an alternative to chlorine in swimming pools. Products containing bromine are also used in agriculture and sanitation.

Research has identified the following 10 dangers of bromine as the most damaging to human health. Edibles that carry bromine are the most dangerous, as they are directly consumed.

Source: Global Healing Center

  1. Affects Thyroid Functionality: Lack of iodine causes thyroid related health problems. Bromine on the other hand is anti-iodine. It restricts the absorption of iodine in body, which is essential for the health of thyroid hormones. Bromine exposure impairs the gland, and results in health issues like hypothyroidism, goiter, and hormonal imbalance.

  2. Preterm Births and Birth Defects: Another role that iodine plays is keeping the process of conception and pregnancy healthy. And as stated above, Bromine restricts iodine absorption. Exposure to bromine to expectant mothers may increase risk for delivering preterm babies. Avoiding the bromine exposure can also be tricky. Even if you avoid baking ingredients and soda, bromine can also be present in drinking water. An Australian study even reported a link between bromide exposure and birth defects.Preterm birth caused due to bromine exposure
  3. Affects Cognitive Development and Failure: Mental dysfunction related to the overexposure to bromine is so common it even has a name — bromism. In one specific case of bromism, a patient consumed vast amounts of soda that contained brominated vegetable oil. The patient experienced problems including fatigue, headache, memory problems, and loss of muscle control.

High bromine intake causes slow cognitive development.

Here is how you can take care of acnes and other skin related problems, all natural way!

  5. It is cancerous: The International Agency for the Research on Cancer has identified potassium bromate (the ingredient used in bread and baking) as a known carcinogen. Although tests have only been performed on animals, the Agency states it may also behave as a carcinogen in humans.
However, a research shows that olive oil has compound that can fight cancer. Read more.

Sleepy day at work? Wake the hell up!!

Here is how you can fight your sleep at work!

It was a Sunday and you decided to stay up late for the cricket match or a Nolan movie. Because why not? It’s still a holiday! What comes next though is a regretful, sleepy and tiring Monday! The eyes are heavy. It is a task in itself keeping the lids open and give a blank stare at the monitor. The fingers give up on typing and all you need is a nice warm cozy sleep.

Well, we can’t promise you that your boss will let you have a small nap. But here is what we got : list of stuff you could do to wake yourself the hell up!!

  1. An apple a day doesn’t just keep the doctor away. But also saves you from an angry mail from the Human Resource about your slow day at work! Having an apple in the morning, puts away the sleepiness.
An apple a day will keep anyone away, if thrown hard enough.
An apple a day will keep anyone away, if thrown hard enough.

Basically, fruit is an excellent food for giving you fast energy but without making you crash. Try eating a few pieces of fruit every 30 minutes or snacking on grapes constantly.
Did you know fresh juices too have tons of benefits!

  2. Water helps too, and not just splashing it across your face, but drinking some too! Dehydration is actually a big cause of tiredness. So what is the opposite of dehydrated? Yeah, hydration! So have lots of water.
Another benefit is, when the bladder fills up, you have to visit the loo too often which
in turn makes you move around and physically up!

    Drinking water helps keep calm
    Staying hydrated helps staying up!
  3. Cold air is a solution too. Cold air keeps your body’s heating system cranking and you will shiver yourself awake. However, if it is an Indian summer time, don’t go for the cooling option! It will only make you cozier. Rather, let yourself sweat. (word of caution: don’t forget some deodorant!)
Sweaty hands are a big put off. Here’s how you can fight it!
  4. Have some tea to fight the sleep. If you have to have one or the other it is better to go for a nice Chinese Green Tea as this has many health benefits. Green tea also helps fighting arthritis.
  5. Get some fresh air. Now this helps a lot! Sometimes sitting in a warm office with a comfortable chair, flickering computer screen and a gentle whisper of talking workmates is enough to send anyone to sleep. Go outside and breathe in some of the fresh air for a few minutes.
  6. If all fails, this might be the only solution. Watch this video for step-by-step instructions.

Nestle Cries Foul!

Nestle has been taking a firm hold on its stance that Maggi did not really break the trust of its consumers. Officials at Nestle have constantly taken the stand, that Maggi noodles never contained Lead and MSG, beyond the allowed limits. However, to maintain the trust of its consumers, Nestle gave a tender worth Rs. 20cr to Aditya Birla group to get done away with the Maggi packets that were banned for consumption.

In recent developments, two things have come forth in sight.

1. Labs in Canada, UK, Singapore and US that tested Maggi samples imported from India, gave a thumbs up, claiming Maggi fit for consumption. They found no content that was harmful for human consumption.

2. Nestle unsurfaced an interesting fact. The testing of the samples, that are said to have failed, were done in Laboratories that were not accredited to do so.
As Times of India published in an article :

Nestle India has hit back at Food Safety Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) for its June 5 ban on the popular 2-minute Maggi noodles by stating that the laboratories where noodle samples tested positive for excessive lead content “lacked accreditation, and are thus inconsistent and unreliable”. It also questioned the grounds of “emergency” for a pan-India ban.

Nestle Maggi

Company has filed a case in the Bombay high court, and its plea shall be heard tomorrow, Tuesday, 14th July 2015. If the Nestle bags this case, huge reimbursements are on its way for Nestle, and this shall pose a question, as to why was there such haste in banning the two minute noodle, and why was this case so poorly handled?

12000 Standards Set by FSSAI

The Food Safety and Standard Authority of India seem to have got into active mode ever since the media cracked onto the Nestle Maggi row. In a recent development, FSSAI has set 12,000 (twelve thousand) standards for food additives and ingredients.
These standards have been set in line with the global standard for product approval Codex. The setting of these standards are supposed to make product approval process more swift, compared to the old lengthy process.
Before this new development, there were only 375 food standards, and NONE were regarding additives and ingredients.

FSSAI has finalised 12,000 standards for food additives and ingredients in line with global safety standards Codex, in order to do away with lengthy process of product approval.
FSSAI has finalised 12,000 standards for food additives and ingredients in line with global safety standards Codex, in order to do away with lengthy process of product approval.

An article in The Times of India :

“FSSAI has approved 12,000 standards for food additives and ingredients. The Law Ministry is vetting the standards and a notification will be issued soon,” a senior health ministry official said.

FSSAI has stepped up measures to strengthen the quality standards for food products. It is reviewing the existing standards set for caffeine content, metal and toxic contaminants and other residues in the food products. The regulator is also in the process of setting standards for imported food items to ensure safe products are sold in the domestic market.

It is noticeable that FSSAI has been quite active in strengthening the food safety norms in India, trying to set levels at par with International levels, which is in best interest of the consumers. But the question is, why did we have to wait for a controversy as large as Nestle Maggi, for the food safety wing  of our country to ensure safer food?
